1 Corinthians 6

CJB

BBE

1 How dare one of you with a complaint against another go to court before pagan judges and not before God's people?
1 How is it, that if any one of you has a cause at law against another, he takes it before a Gentile judge and not before the saints?
2 Don't you know that God's people are going to judge the universe? If you are going to judge the universe, are you incompetent to judge these minor matters?
2 Is it not certain that the saints will be the judges of the world? if then the world will be judged by you, are you unable to give a decision about the smallest things?
3 Don't you know that we will judge angels, not to mention affairs of everyday life?
3 Is it not certain that we are to be the judges of angels? how much more then of the things of this life?
4 So if you require judgments about matters of everyday life, why do you put them in front of men who have no standing in the Messianic Community?
4 If then there are questions to be judged in connection with the things of this life, why do you put them in the hands of those who have no position in the church?
5 I say, shame on you! Can it be that there isn't one person among you wise enough to be able to settle a dispute between brothers?
5 I say this to put you to shame. Is there not among you one wise man who may be able to give a decision between his brothers?
6 Instead, a brother brings a lawsuit against another brother, and that before unbelievers!
6 But a brother who has a cause at law against another takes it before Gentile judges.
7 Actually, if you are bringing lawsuits against each other, it is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
7 More than this, it is not to your credit to have causes at law with one another at all. Why not put up with wrong? why not undergo loss?
8 Instead, you yourselves wrong and cheat; and you do it to your own brothers!
8 So far from doing this, you yourselves do wrong and take your brothers' property.
9 Don't you know that unrighteous people will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don't delude yourselves - people who engage in sex before marriage, who worship idols, who engage in sex after marriage with someone other than their spouse, who engage in active or passive homosexuality,
9 Have you not knowledge that evil-doers will have no part in the kingdom of God? Have no false ideas about this: no one who goes after the desires of the flesh, or gives worship to images, or is untrue when married, or is less than a man, or makes a wrong use of men,
10 who steal, who are greedy, who get drunk, who assail people with contemptuous language, who rob - none of them will share in the Kingdom of God.
10 Or is a thief, or the worse for drink, or makes use of strong language, or takes by force what is not his, will have any part in the kingdom of God.
11 Some of you used to do these things. But you have cleansed yourselves, you have been set apart for God, you have come to be counted righteous through the power of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah and the Spirit of our God.
11 And such were some of you; but you have been washed, you have been made holy, you have been given righteousness in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
12 You say, "For me, everything is permitted"? Maybe, but not everything is helpful. "For me, everything is permitted"? Maybe, but as far as I am concerned, I am not going to let anything gain control over me.
12 I am free to do all things; but not all things are wise. I am free to do all things; but I will not let myself come under the power of any.
13 "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food"? Maybe, but God will put an end to both of them. Anyhow, the body is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.
13 Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will put an end to them together. But the body is not for the desires of the flesh, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body:
14 God raised up the Lord, and he will raise us up too by his power.
14 And God who made the Lord Jesus come back from the dead will do the same for us by his power.
15 Don't you know that your bodies are parts of the Messiah? So, am I to take parts of the Messiah and make them parts of a prostitute? Heaven forbid!
15 Do you not see that your bodies are part of the body of Christ? how then may I take what is a part of the body of Christ and make it a part of the body of a loose woman? such a thing may not be.
16 Don't you know that a man who joins himself to a prostitute becomes physically one with her? For the Tanakh says, "The two will become one flesh";
16 Or do you not see that he who is joined to a loose woman is one body with her? for God has said, The two of them will become one flesh.
17 but the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.
17 But he who is united to the Lord is one spirit.
18 Run from sexual immorality! Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the fornicator sins against his own body.
18 Keep away from the desires of the flesh. Every sin which a man does is outside of the body; but he who goes after the desires of the flesh does evil to his body.
19 Or don't you know that your body is a temple for the Ruach HaKodesh who lives inside you, whom you received from God? The fact is, you don't belong to yourselves;
19 Or are you not conscious that your body is a house for the Holy Spirit which is in you, and which has been given to you by God? and you are not the owners of yourselves;
20 for you were bought at a price. So use your bodies to glorify God.
20 For a payment has been made for you: let God be honoured in your body.
