1 John 1:1-7

ESV 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life-- NLT 1 We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. ESV 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us-- NLT 2 This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. ESV 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. NLT 3 We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. ESV 4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. NLT 4 We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy. ESV 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. NLT 5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. ESV 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. NLT 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. ESV 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. NLT 7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
