1 I charge <em>thee</em>, therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead in his appearing and in his kingdom:
1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
2 Preach the word; be instant in season <em>and</em> out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, they shall heap up unto themselves teachers who shall speak to them according to their own lusts,
3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
4 and thus they shall turn away <em>their</em> ears from the truth and shall return unto fables.

5 But watch thou in all things, labour, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry.

11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark and bring him with thee, for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:
14 Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done.
15 of whom be thou ware also; for he has greatly resisted our words.
15 You too should be on your guard against him, because he strongly opposed our message.
16 At my first answer no one stood with me, but all <em>men</em> forsook me: let it not be imputed unto them.
16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.
17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, that by me the preaching might be fully known and <em>that</em> all the Gentiles might hear, and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.
18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and will save me for his heavenly kingdom, to whom <em>be</em> glory for ever and ever. Amen.
18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

22 The Lord Jesus Christ <em>be</em> with thy spirit. Grace <em>be</em> with you. Amen.
