2 Corinthians 9

CEB 1 It's unnecessary for me to write to you about this service for God's people. NRS 1 Now it is not necessary for me to write you about the ministry to the saints, CEB 2 I know about your willingness to help. I brag about you to the Macedonians, saying, "Greece has been ready since last year," and your enthusiasm has motivated most of them. NRS 2 for I know your eagerness, which is the subject of my boasting about you to the people of Macedonia, saying that Achaia has been ready since last year; and your zeal has stirred up most of them. CEB 3 But I'm sending the brothers so that our bragging about you in this case won't be empty words, and so that you can be prepared, just as I keep telling them you will be. NRS 3 But I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you may not prove to have been empty in this case, so that you may be ready, as I said you would be; CEB 4 If some Macedonians should come with me and find out that you aren't ready, we (not to mention you) would be embarrassed as far as this project goes. NRS 4 otherwise, if some Macedonians come with me and find that you are not ready, we would be humiliated—to say nothing of you—in this undertaking. CEB 5 This is why I thought it was necessary to encourage the brothers to go to you ahead of time and arrange in advance the generous gift you have already promised. I want it to be a real gift from you. I don't want you to feel like you are being forced to give anything. NRS 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you, and arrange in advance for this bountiful gift that you have promised, so that it may be ready as a voluntary gift and not as an extortion. CEB 6 What I mean is this: the one who sows a small number of seeds will also reap a small crop, and the one who sows a generous amount of seeds will also reap a generous crop. NRS 6 The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. CEB 7 Everyone should give whatever they have decided in their heart. They shouldn't give with hesitation or because of pressure. God loves a cheerful giver. NRS 7 Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. CEB 8 God has the power to provide you with more than enough of every kind of grace. That way, you will have everything you need always and in everything to provide more than enough for every kind of good work. NRS 8 And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. CEB 9 As it is written, He scattered everywhere; he gave to the needy; his righteousness remains forever. NRS 9 As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." CEB 10 The one who supplies seed for planting and bread for eating will supply and multiply your seed and will increase your crop, which is righteousness. NRS 10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. CEB 11 You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous in every way. Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God through us. NRS 11 You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us; CEB 12 Your ministry of this service to God's people isn't only fully meeting their needs but it is also multiplying in many expressions of thanksgiving to God. NRS 12 for the rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God. CEB 13 They will give honor to God for your obedience to your confession of Christ's gospel. They will do this because this service provides evidence of your obedience, and because of your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone. NRS 13 Through the testing of this ministry you glorify God by your obedience to the confession of the gospel of Christ and by the generosity of your sharing with them and with all others, CEB 14 They will also pray for you, and they will care deeply for you because of the outstanding grace that God has given to you. NRS 14 while they long for you and pray for you because of the surpassing grace of God that he has given you. CEB 15 Thank God for his gift that words can't describe! NRS 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
