John 5:1-9

CEB 1 After this there was a Jewish festival, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. NRS 1 After this there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. CEB 2 In Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate in the north city wall is a pool with the Aramaic name Bethsaida. It had five covered porches, NRS 2 Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. CEB 3 and a crowd of people who were sick, blind, lame, and paralyzed sat there. NRS 3 In these lay many invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. CEB 5 A certain man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. NRS 5 One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. CEB 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, knowing that he had already been there a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" NRS 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be made well?" CEB 7 The sick man answered him, "Sir, I don't have anyone who can put me in the water when it is stirred up. When I'm trying to get to it, someone else has gotten in ahead of me." NRS 7 The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down ahead of me." CEB 8 Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." NRS 8 Jesus said to him, "Stand up, take your mat and walk." CEB 9 Immediately the man was well, and he picked up his mat and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. NRS 9 At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk. Now that day was a sabbath.
