Luke 10:1-16

ESV 1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. MSG 1 Later the Master selected seventy and sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he intended to go. ESV 2 And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. MSG 2 He gave them this charge: "What a huge harvest! And how few the harvest hands. So on your knees; ask the God of the Harvest to send harvest hands. ESV 3 Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. MSG 3 "On your way! But be careful - this is hazardous work. You're like lambs in a wolf pack. ESV 4 Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. MSG 4 "Travel light. Comb and toothbrush and no extra luggage. "Don't loiter and make small talk with everyone you meet along the way. ESV 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace be to this house!' MSG 5 "When you enter a home, greet the family, 'Peace.' ESV 6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. MSG 6 If your greeting is received, then it's a good place to stay. But if it's not received, take it back and get out. Don't impose yourself. ESV 7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. MSG 7 "Stay at one home, taking your meals there, for a worker deserves three square meals. Don't move from house to house, looking for the best cook in town. ESV 8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. MSG 8 "When you enter a town and are received, eat what they set before you, ESV 9 Heal the sick in it and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' MSG 9 heal anyone who is sick, and tell them, 'God's kingdom is right on your doorstep!' ESV 10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, MSG 10 "When you enter a town and are not received, go out in the street and say, ESV 11 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.' MSG 11 'The only thing we got from you is the dirt on our feet, and we're giving it back. Did you have any idea that God's kingdom was right on your doorstep?' ESV 12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. MSG 12 Sodom will have it better on Judgment Day than the town that rejects you. ESV 13 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. MSG 13 "Doom, Chorazin! Doom, Bethsaida! If Tyre and Sidon had been given half the chances given you, they'd have been on their knees long ago, repenting and crying for mercy. ESV 14 But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. MSG 14 Tyre and Sidon will have it easy on Judgment Day compared to you. ESV 15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. MSG 15 "And you, Capernaum! Do you think you're about to be promoted to heaven? Think again. You're on a mud slide to hell. ESV 16 "The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me." MSG 16 "The one who listens to you, listens to me. The one who rejects you, rejects me. And rejecting me is the same as rejecting God, who sent me."
