Deuteronomy 11

GNT

WEB

1 "Love the Lord your God and always obey all his laws.
1 Therefore you shall love Yahweh your God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his commandments, always.
2 Remember today what you have learned about the Lord through your experiences with him. It was you, not your children, who had these experiences. You saw the Lord's greatness, his power, his might,
2 Know you this day: for I don't speak with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,
3 and his miracles. You saw what he did to the king of Egypt and to his entire country.
3 and his signs, and his works, which he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land;
4 You saw how the Lord completely wiped out the Egyptian army, along with their horses and chariots, by drowning them in the Red Sea when they were pursuing you.
4 and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how Yahweh has destroyed them to this day;
5 You know what the Lord did for you in the desert before you arrived here.
5 and what he did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place;
6 You recall what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab of the tribe of Reuben. In the sight of everyone the earth opened up and swallowed them, along with their families, their tents, and all their servants and animals.
6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben; how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel:
7 Yes, you are the ones who have seen all these great things that the Lord has done.
7 but your eyes have seen all the great work of Yahweh which he did.
8 "Obey everything that I have commanded you today. Then you will be able to cross the river and occupy the land that you are about to enter.
8 Therefore shall you keep all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where you go over to possess it;
9 And you will live a long time in the rich and fertile land that the Lord promised to give your ancestors and their descendants.
9 and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.
10 The land that you are about to occupy is not like the land of Egypt, where you lived before. There, when you planted grain, you had to work hard to irrigate the fields;
10 For the land, where you go in to possess it, isn't as the land of Egypt, from whence you came out, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs;
11 but the land that you are about to enter is a land of mountains and valleys, a land watered by rain.
11 but the land, where you go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, [and] drinks water of the rain of the sky,
12 The Lord your God takes care of this land and watches over it throughout the year.
12 a land which Yahweh your God cares for: the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.
13 "So then, obey the commands that I have given you today; love the Lord your God and serve him with all your heart.
13 It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to my commandments which I command you this day, to love Yahweh your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14 If you do, he will send rain on your land when it is needed, in the autumn and in the spring, so that there will be grain, wine, and olive oil for you,
14 that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, and your new wine, and your oil.
15 and grass for your livestock. You will have all the food you want.
15 I will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you shall eat and be full.
16 Do not let yourselves be led away from the Lord to worship and serve other gods.
16 Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
17 If you do, the Lord will become angry with you. He will hold back the rain, and your ground will become too dry for crops to grow. Then you will soon die there, even though it is a good land that he is giving you.
17 and the anger of Yahweh be kindled against you, and he shut up the sky, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which Yahweh gives you.
18 "Remember these commands and cherish them. Tie them on your arms and wear them on your foreheads as a reminder.
18 Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes.
19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working.
19 You shall teach them your children, talking of them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.
20 Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.
20 You shall write them on the door-posts of your house, and on your gates;
21 Then you and your children will live a long time in the land that the Lord your God promised to give to your ancestors. You will live there as long as there is a sky above the earth.
21 that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.
22 "Obey faithfully everything that I have commanded you: Love the Lord your God, do everything he commands, and be faithful to him.
22 For if you shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave to him;
23 Then he will drive out all those nations as you advance, and you will occupy the land belonging to nations greater and more powerful than you.
23 then will Yahweh drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.
24 All the ground that you march over will be yours. Your territory will extend from the desert in the south to the Lebanon Mountains in the north, and from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.
24 Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the hinder sea shall be your border.
25 Wherever you go in that land, the Lord your God will make the people fear you, as he has promised, and no one will be able to stop you.
25 There shall no man be able to stand before you: Yahweh your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land that you shall tread on, as he has spoken to you.
26 "Today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse -
26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:
27 a blessing, if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today;
27 the blessing, if you shall listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I command you this day;
28 but a curse, if you disobey these commands and turn away to worship other gods that you have never worshiped before.
28 and the curse, if you shall not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which you have not known.
29 When the Lord brings you into the land that you are going to occupy, you are to proclaim the blessing from Mount Gerizim and the curse from Mount Ebal.
29 It shall happen, when Yahweh your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, that you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30 (These two mountains are west of the Jordan River in the territory of the Canaanites who live in the Jordan Valley. They are toward the west, not far from the sacred trees of Moreh near the town of Gilgal.)
30 Aren't they beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?
31 You are about to cross the Jordan River and occupy the land that the Lord your God is giving you. When you take it and settle there,
31 For you are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell therein.
32 be sure to obey all the laws that I am giving you today.
32 You shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day.
