Galatians 5

NCV 1 We have freedom now, because Christ made us free. So stand strong. Do not change and go back into the slavery of the law. NIV 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. NCV 2 Listen, I Paul tell you that if you go back to the law by being circumcised, Christ does you no good. NIV 2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. NCV 3 Again, I warn every man: If you allow yourselves to be circumcised, you must follow all the law. NIV 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. NCV 4 If you try to be made right with God through the law, your life with Christ is over -- you have left God's grace. NIV 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. NCV 5 But we have the true hope that comes from being made right with God, and by the Spirit we wait eagerly for this hope. NIV 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. NCV 6 When we are in Christ Jesus, it is not important if we are circumcised or not. The important thing is faith -- the kind of faith that works through love. NIV 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. NCV 7 You were running a good race. Who stopped you from following the true way? NIV 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? NCV 8 This change did not come from the One who chose you. NIV 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. NCV 9 Be careful! "Just a little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise." NIV 9 “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” NCV 10 But I trust in the Lord that you will not believe those different ideas. Whoever is confusing you with such ideas will be punished. NIV 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. NCV 11 My brothers and sisters, I do not teach that a man must be circumcised. If I teach circumcision, why am I still being attacked? If I still taught circumcision, my preaching about the cross would not be a problem. NIV 11 Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. NCV 12 I wish the people who are bothering you would castraten themselves! NIV 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! NCV 13 My brothers and sisters, God called you to be free, but do not use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful self. Serve each other with love. NIV 13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love. NCV 14 The whole law is made complete in this one command: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." NIV 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” NCV 15 If you go on hurting each other and tearing each other apart, be careful, or you will completely destroy each other. NIV 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. NCV 16 So I tell you: Live by following the Spirit. Then you will not do what your sinful selves want. NIV 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. NCV 17 Our sinful selves want what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit wants what is against our sinful selves. The two are against each other, so you cannot do just what you please. NIV 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. NCV 18 But if the Spirit is leading you, you are not under the law. NIV 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. NCV 19 The wrong things the sinful self does are clear: being sexually unfaithful, not being pure, taking part in sexual sins, NIV 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; NCV 20 worshiping gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, being jealous, being angry, being selfish, making people angry with each other, causing divisions among people, NIV 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions NCV 21 feeling envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties, and doing other things like these. I warn you now as I warned you before: Those who do these things will not inherit God's kingdom. NIV 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. NCV 22 But the Spirit produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, NIV 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, NCV 23 gentleness, self-control. There is no law that says these things are wrong. NIV 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. NCV 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their own sinful selves. They have given up their old selfish feelings and the evil things they wanted to do. NIV 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. NCV 25 We get our new life from the Spirit, so we should follow the Spirit. NIV 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. NCV 26 We must not be proud or make trouble with each other or be jealous of each other. NIV 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
