1 Then Job answered,
1 Then Job replied:
2 "How have you helped him who is without power! How have you saved the arm that has no strength!
2 “How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm that is feeble!
3 How have you counseled him who has no wisdom, And plentifully declared sound knowledge!
3 What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed!
4 To whom have you uttered words? Whose spirit came forth from you?
4 Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?
5 "Those who are deceased tremble, Those beneath the waters and all that live in them.
5 “The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.
6 Sheol is naked before God, And Abaddon has no covering.
6 The realm of the dead is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered.
7 He stretches out the north over empty space, And hangs the earth on nothing.
7 He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.
8 He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, And the cloud is not burst under them.
8 He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.
9 He encloses the face of his throne, And spreads his cloud on it.
9 He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it.
10 He has described a boundary on the surface of the waters, And to the confines of light and darkness.
10 He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble And are astonished at his rebuke.
11 The pillars of the heavens quake, aghast at his rebuke.
12 He stirs up the sea with his power, And by his understanding he strikes through Rahab.
12 By his power he churned up the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces.
13 By his Spirit the heavens are garnished. His hand has pierced the swift serpent.
13 By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the gliding serpent.
14 Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways. How small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?"
14 And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”
