NAS 1 Then Job continued his discourse and said, NIV 1 And Job continued his discourse: NAS 2 "As God lives, who has taken away my right, And the Almighty, who has embittered my soul, NIV 2 “As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter, NAS 3 For as long as life is in me, And the breath of God is in my nostrils, NIV 3 as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils, NAS 4 My lips certainly will not speak unjustly, Nor will my tongue mutter deceit. NIV 4 my lips will not say anything wicked, and my tongue will not utter lies. NAS 5 "Far be it from me that I should declare you right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. NIV 5 I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity. NAS 6 "I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go. My heart does not reproach any of my days. NIV 6 I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live. NAS 7 "May my enemy be as the wicked And my opponent as the unjust. NIV 7 “May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unjust! NAS 8 "For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, When God requires his life? NIV 8 For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life? NAS 9 "Will God hear his cry When distress comes upon him? NIV 9 Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them? NAS 10 "Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times? NIV 10 Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times? NAS 11 "I will instruct you in the power of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal. NIV 11 “I will teach you about the power of God; the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal. NAS 12 "Behold, all of you have seen it; Why then do you act foolishly? NIV 12 You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk? NAS 13 "This is the portion of a wicked man from God, And the inheritance which tyrants receive from the Almighty. NIV 13 “Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty: NAS 14 "Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; And his descendants will not be satisfied with bread. NIV 14 However many his children, their fate is the sword; his offspring will never have enough to eat. NAS 15 "His survivors will be buried because of the plague, And their widows will not be able to weep. NIV 15 The plague will bury those who survive him, and their widows will not weep for them. NAS 16 "Though he piles up silver like dust And prepares garments as plentiful as the clay, NIV 16 Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay, NAS 17 He may prepare it, but the just will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver. NIV 17 what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver. NAS 18 "He has built his house like the spider's web, Or as a hut which the watchman has made. NIV 18 The house he builds is like a moth’s cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman. NAS 19 "He lies down rich, but never again; He opens his eyes, and it is no longer. NIV 19 He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone. NAS 20 "Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night. NIV 20 Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night. NAS 21 "The east wind carries him away, and he is gone, For it whirls him away from his place. NIV 21 The east wind carries him off, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place. NAS 22 "For it will hurl at him without sparing; He will surely try to flee from its power. NIV 22 It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power. NAS 23 "Men will clap their hands at him And will hiss him from his place. NIV 23 It claps its hands in derision and hisses him out of his place.”
