Job 35

YLT 1 And Elihu answereth and saith: -- NIV 1 Then Elihu said: YLT 2 This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said -- `My righteousness [is] more than God's?' NIV 2 “Do you think this is just? You say, ‘I am in the right, not God.’ YLT 3 For thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?' NIV 3 Yet you ask him, ‘What profit is it to me,and what do I gain by not sinning?’ YLT 4 I return thee words, and thy friends with thee, NIV 4 “I would like to reply to you and to your friends with you. YLT 5 Behold attentively the heavens -- and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou. NIV 5 Look up at the heavens and see; gaze at the clouds so high above you. YLT 6 If thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him? NIV 6 If you sin, how does that affect him? If your sins are many, what does that do to him? YLT 7 If thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive? NIV 7 If you are righteous, what do you give to him, or what does he receive from your hand? YLT 8 For a man like thyself [is] thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness. NIV 8 Your wickedness only affects humans like yourself, and your righteousness only other people. YLT 9 Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty. NIV 9 “People cry out under a load of oppression; they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful. YLT 10 And none said, `Where [is] God my maker? Giving songs in the night, NIV 10 But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night, YLT 11 Teaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.' NIV 11 who teaches us more than he teaches the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds in the sky?’ YLT 12 There they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers. NIV 12 He does not answer when people cry out because of the arrogance of the wicked. YLT 13 Surely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it. NIV 13 Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea; the Almighty pays no attention to it. YLT 14 Yea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment [is] before Him, and stay for Him. NIV 14 How much less, then, will he listen when you say that you do not see him, that your case is before him and you must wait for him, YLT 15 And, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity. NIV 15 and further, that his anger never punishes and he does not take the least notice of wickedness. YLT 16 And Job [with] vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth. NIV 16 So Job opens his mouth with empty talk; without knowledge he multiplies words.”
