NAS 1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, NIV 1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied: NAS 2 "If one ventures a word with you, will you become impatient? But who can refrain from speaking? NIV 2 “If someone ventures a word with you, will you be impatient? But who can keep from speaking? NAS 3 "Behold you have admonished many, And you have strengthened weak hands. NIV 3 Think how you have instructed many, how you have strengthened feeble hands. NAS 4 "Your words have helped the tottering to stand, And you have strengthened feeble knees. NIV 4 Your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees. NAS 5 "But now it has come to you, and you are impatient; It touches you, and you are dismayed. NIV 5 But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed. NAS 6 "Is not your fear of God your confidence, And the integrity of your ways your hope? NIV 6 Should not your piety be your confidence and your blameless ways your hope? NAS 7 "Remember now, who ever perished being innocent? Or where were the upright destroyed? NIV 7 “Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Where were the upright ever destroyed? NAS 8 "According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity And those who sow trouble harvest it. NIV 8 As I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it. NAS 9 "By the breath of God they perish, And by the blast of His anger they come to an end. NIV 9 At the breath of God they perish; at the blast of his anger they are no more. NAS 10 "The roaring of the lion and the voice of the fierce lion, And the teeth of the young lions are broken. NIV 10 The lions may roar and growl, yet the teeth of the great lions are broken. NAS 11 "The lion perishes for lack of prey, And the whelps of the lioness are scattered. NIV 11 The lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered. NAS 12 "Now a word was brought to me stealthily, And my ear received a whisper of it. NIV 12 “A word was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper of it. NAS 13 "Amid disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night, When deep sleep falls on men, NIV 13 Amid disquieting dreams in the night, when deep sleep falls on people, NAS 14 Dread came upon me, and trembling, And made all my bones shake. NIV 14 fear and trembling seized me and made all my bones shake. NAS 15 "Then a spirit passed by my face; The hair of my flesh bristled up. NIV 15 A spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body stood on end. NAS 16 "It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance; A form was before my eyes; There was silence, then I heard a voice: NIV 16 It stopped, but I could not tell what it was. A form stood before my eyes, and I heard a hushed voice: NAS 17 'Can mankind be just before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? NIV 17 ‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker? NAS 18 'He puts no trust even in His servants; And against His angels He charges error. NIV 18 If God places no trust in his servants, if he charges his angels with error, NAS 19 'How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth! NIV 19 how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who are crushed more readily than a moth! NAS 20 'Between morning and evening they are broken in pieces; Unobserved , they perish forever. NIV 20 Between dawn and dusk they are broken to pieces; unnoticed, they perish forever. NAS 21 'Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, yet without wisdom.' NIV 21 Are not the cords of their tent pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
