Job 40

GNT

WEB

1 Job, you challenged Almighty God; will you give up now, or will you answer?
1 Moreover Yahweh answered Job,
3 I spoke foolishly, Lord. What can I answer? I will not try to say anything else.
3 Then Job answered Yahweh,
5 I have already said more than I should.
5 I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further."
6 Then out of the storm the Lord spoke to Job once again.
6 Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind,
7 Now stand up straight and answer my questions.
7 "Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me.
8 Are you trying to prove that I am unjust - to put me in the wrong and yourself in the right?
8 Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?
9 Are you as strong as I am? Can your voice thunder as loud as mine?
9 Or have you an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him?
10 If so, stand up in your honor and pride; clothe yourself with majesty and glory.
10 "Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty.
11 Look at those who are proud; pour out your anger and humble them.
11 Pour forth the fury of your anger. Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low.
12 Yes, look at them and bring them down; crush the wicked where they stand.
12 Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place.
13 Bury them all in the ground; bind them in the world of the dead.
13 Hide them in the dust together. Bind their faces in the hidden place.
14 Then I will be the first to praise you and admit that you won the victory yourself.
14 Then I will also admit to you That your own right hand can save you.
15 Look at the monster Behemoth; I created him and I created you. He eats grass like a cow,
15 "See now, behemoth, which I made as well as you. He eats grass as an ox.
16 but what strength there is in his body, and what power there is in his muscles!
16 Look now, his strength is in his loins, His force is in the muscles of his belly.
17 His tail stands up like a cedar, and the muscles in his legs are strong.
17 He moves his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his thighs are knit together.
18 His bones are as strong as bronze, and his legs are like iron bars.
18 His bones are like tubes of brass. His limbs are like bars of iron.
19 The most amazing of all my creatures! Only his Creator can defeat him.
19 He is the chief of the ways of God. He who made him gives him his sword.
20 Grass to feed him grows on the hills where wild beasts play.
20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, Where all the animals of the field do play.
21 He lies down under the thorn bushes, and hides among the reeds in the swamp.
21 He lies under the lotus trees, In the covert of the reed, and the marsh.
22 The thorn bushes and the willows by the stream give him shelter in their shade.
22 The lotuses cover him with their shade. The willows of the brook surround him.
23 He is not afraid of a rushing river; he is calm when the Jordan dashes in his face.
23 Behold, if a river overflows, he doesn't tremble. He is confident, though the Jordan swells even to his mouth.
24 Who can blind his eyes and capture him? Or who can catch his snout in a trap?
24 Shall any take him when he is on the watch, Or pierce through his nose with a snare?
