John 2:1-12

ESV 1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. MSG 1 Three days later there was a wedding in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there. ESV 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. MSG 2 Jesus and his disciples were guests also. ESV 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." MSG 3 When they started running low on wine at the wedding banquet, Jesus' mother told him, "They're just about out of wine." ESV 4 And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come." MSG 4 Jesus said, "Is that any of our business, Mother - yours or mine? This isn't my time. Don't push me." ESV 5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." MSG 5 She went ahead anyway, telling the servants, "Whatever he tells you, do it." ESV 6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. MSG 6 Six stoneware water pots were there, used by the Jews for ritual washings. Each held twenty to thirty gallons. ESV 7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. MSG 7 Jesus ordered the servants, "Fill the pots with water." And they filled them to the brim. ESV 8 And he said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast." So they took it. MSG 8 "Now fill your pitchers and take them to the host," Jesus said, and they did. ESV 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom MSG 9 When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn't know what had just happened but the servants, of course, knew), he called out to the bridegroom, ESV 10 and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now." MSG 10 "Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you've saved the best till now!" ESV 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. MSG 11 This act in Cana of Galilee was the first sign Jesus gave, the first glimpse of his glory. And his disciples believed in him. ESV 12 After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days. MSG 12 After this he went down to Capernaum along with his mother, brothers, and disciples, and stayed several days.
