Jonah 2

YLT 1 And Jonah prayeth unto Jehovah his God from the bowels of the fish. NIV 1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. YLT 2 And he saith: I called, because of my distress, to Jehovah, And He doth answer me, From the belly of sheol I have cried, Thou hast heard my voice. NIV 2 He said: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. YLT 3 When Thou dost cast me [into] the deep, Into the heart of the seas, Then the flood doth compass me, All Thy breakers and Thy billows have passed over me. NIV 3 You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. YLT 4 And I -- I said: I have been cast out from before Thine eyes, (Yet I add to look unto Thy holy temple!) NIV 4 I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’ YLT 5 Compassed me have waters unto the soul, The deep doth compass me, The weed is bound to my head. NIV 5 The engulfing waters threatened me,the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. YLT 6 To the cuttings of mountains I have come down, The earth, her bars [are] behind me to the age. And Thou bringest up from the pit my life, O Jehovah my God. NIV 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit. YLT 7 In the feebleness within me of my soul Jehovah I have remembered, And come in unto Thee doth my prayer, Unto Thy holy temple. NIV 7 “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. YLT 8 Those observing lying vanities their own mercy forsake. NIV 8 “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. YLT 9 And I -- with a voice of thanksgiving -- I sacrifice to Thee, That which I have vowed I complete, Salvation [is] of Jehovah. NIV 9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the LORD.’ ” YLT 10 And Jehovah saith to the fish, and it vomiteth out Jonah on the dry land. NIV 10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
