KJV 1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. ESV 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. KJV 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. ESV 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. KJV 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. ESV 3 And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." KJV 4 But he answered and said,It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. ESV 4 But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" KJV 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, ESV 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple KJV 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. ESV 6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, "'He will command his angels concerning you, 'and "'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" KJV 7 Jesus said unto him,It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. ESV 7 Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" KJV 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; ESV 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. KJV 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. ESV 9 And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." KJV 10 Then saith Jesus unto him,Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. ESV 10 Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan! For it is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'" KJV 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. ESV 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
