NIV

1 These [are] the genealogies of Aaron and Moses {at the time} when Yahweh spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai.
1 This is the account of the family of Aaron and Moses at the time the LORD spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai.
2 These [are] the names of the descendants of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
2 The names of the sons of Aaron were Nadab the firstborn and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
3 These [are] the names of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, the anointed ones whom {he consecrated as priests}.
3 Those were the names of Aaron’s sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests.
4 Nadab and Abihu died {before Yahweh} when they presented a strange fire {before Yahweh} in the desert of Sinai, and {they had no children}. Eleazar and Ithamar served as priest during the presence of Aaron their father.
4 Nadab and Abihu, however, died before the LORD when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai. They had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.
5 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
5 The LORD said to Moses,
6 "Bring near the tribe of Levi, and {set the tribe} {before Aaron} the priest, and they will minister to him.
6 “Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him.
7 They shall observe his duties and the duties of the entire community before the tent of assembly, to do the work of the tabernacle.
7 They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the tent of meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle.
8 And they will keep all the vessels of the tent of assembly and the responsibilities of the {Israelites}, to do the work of the tabernacle.
8 They are to take care of all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle.
9 You will give the Levites to Aaron and to his descendants; they [are] surely assigned to him from among the {Israelites}.
9 Give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to him.
10 But you will count Aaron and his descendants; they will keep their priesthood, and the stranger who approaches will be put to death."
10 Appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests; anyone else who approaches the sanctuary is to be put to death.”
11 Yahweh spoke to Moses saying,
11 The LORD also said to Moses,
12 "I [myself] receive the Levites from the midst of the {Israelites} in the place of all [the] firstborn of [the] offspring of the womb from the {Israelites}. The Levites will be mine
12 “I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are mine,
13 because all [the] firstborn [are] mine; on the day of my killing all [the] firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for myself all [the] firstborn in Israel, {both humankind and animal}; they will be mine. I am Yahweh."
13 for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, whether human or animal. They are to be mine. I am the LORD.”
14 Yahweh spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, saying,
