CEBA 1 Wisdom built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars. NIV 1 Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. CEBA 2 She slaughtered her animals, mixed her wine, and set her table. NIV 2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. CEBA 3 She sends out her female servants; she issues an invitation from the top of the city heights: NIV 3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, CEBA 4 "Whoever is naive turn aside here," she says to those who lack sense. NIV 4 “Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, CEBA 5 "Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed. NIV 5 “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. CEBA 6 Abandon your simplistic ways and live; walk in the way of understanding." NIV 6 Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.” CEBA 7 Whoever instructs the cynic gets insulted; whoever corrects the wicked gets hurt. NIV 7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse. CEBA 8 Don't correct the impudent, or they will hate you; correct the wise, and they will love you. NIV 8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you. CEBA 9 Teach the wise, and they will become wiser; inform the righteous, and their learning will increase. NIV 9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. CEBA 10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD; the knowledge of the holy one is understanding. NIV 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. CEBA 11 Through me your days will be many; years will be added to your life. NIV 11 For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. CEBA 12 If you are wise, it is to your benefit; if you are cynical, you will bear it all alone. NIV 12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer. CEBA 13 Woman Folly is noisy; she's stupid and doesn't even know it. NIV 13 Folly is an unruly woman; she is simple and knows nothing. CEBA 14 She sits at the doorway of her house, on a seat at the city heights. NIV 14 She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, CEBA 15 She invites those who pass by on the path, those going straight on their way. NIV 15 calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way, CEBA 16 "Whoever is naive, come in here," she says to those who lack sense. NIV 16 “Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, CEBA 17 "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is pleasant." NIV 17 “Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!” CEBA 18 But they don't know that the dead are there; her guests are in the depths of the grave. NIV 18 But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.
