1 I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord!"

I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let's go to the LORD's house!"
2 Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Now our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem!
3 Jerusalem—built as a city that is bound firmly together.

Jerusalem is built like a city joined together in unity.
4 To it the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord.

That is where the tribes go up— the LORD's tribes! It is the law for Israel to give thanks there to the LORD's name,
5 For there the thrones for judgment were set up, the thrones of the house of David.

because the thrones of justice are there— the thrones of the house of David!
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you.

Pray that Jerusalem has peace: "Let those who love you have rest.
7 Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers."

Let there be peace on your walls; let there be rest on your fortifications."
8 For the sake of my relatives and friends I will say, "Peace be within you."

For the sake of my family and friends, I say, "Peace be with you, Jerusalem."
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.

For the sake of the LORD our God's house I will pray for your good.
