Psalm 48

NIV

CJB

1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
1 A song. A psalm of the descendants of Korach: Great is ADONAI and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God, his holy mountain,
2 Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King.
2 beautiful in its elevation, the joy of all the earth, Mount Tziyon, in the far north, the city of the great king.
3 God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.
3 In its citadels God has been revealed as a strong defense.
4 When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together,
4 For the kings met by agreement; together they advanced.
5 they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror.
5 They saw and were filled with consternation; terrified, they took to flight.
6 Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor.
6 Trembling took hold of them, pains like those of a woman in labor,
7 You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.
7 as when the wind out of the east wrecks the "Tarshish" ships.
8 As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever.
8 We heard it, and now we see for ourselves in the city of ADONAI-Tzva'ot, in the city of our God. May God establish it forever. (Selah)
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
9 God, within your temple we meditate on your grace.
10 Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.
10 God, your praise, like your name, extends to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11 Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments.
11 Let Mount Tziyon rejoice, let the daughters of Y'hudah be glad, because of your judgment [on the enemy].
12 Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers,
12 Walk through Tziyon, go all around it; count how many towers it has.
13 consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.
13 Note its ramparts, pass through its citadels, so that you can tell generations to come
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
14 that such is God, our God forever; he will guide us eternally.
