Psalms 8

NLT

MSG

1 O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens.
1 God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name.
2 You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.
2 Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you; toddlers shout the songs That drown out enemy talk, and silence atheist babble.
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place—
3 I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, Moon and stars mounted in their settings.
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?
4 Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, Why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?
5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.
5 Yet we've so narrowly missed being gods, bright with Eden's dawn light.
6 You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority—
6 You put us in charge of your handcrafted world, repeated to us your Genesis-charge,
7 the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals,
7 Made us lords of sheep and cattle, even animals out in the wild,
8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents.
8 Birds flying and fish swimming, whales singing in the ocean deeps.
9 O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
9 God, brilliant Lord, your name echoes around the world.
