For I envied1 the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.24
They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong.a5
They are free3 from the burdens common to man; they are not plagued by human ills.
Therefore pride4 is their necklace;5 they clothe themselves with violence.67
From their callous hearts7 comes iniquityb; the evil conceits of their minds know no limits.
They scoff, and speak with malice;8 in their arrogance9 they threaten oppression.109
Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth.
Therefore their people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance.c11
They say, "How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?"
This is what the wicked are like-- always carefree,11 they increase in wealth.12
