John 8:30-40

Listen to John 8:30-40
30 As he was saying these things, 1many believed in him.

The Truth Will Set You Free

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, 2ā€œIf you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
32 and you will 3know the truth, and the truth 4will set you free. ā€
33 They answered him, 5ā€œWe are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ā€˜You will become free’? ā€
34 Jesus answered them, ā€œTruly, truly, I say to you, 6everyone who practices sin is a slave[a] to sin.
35 7The slave does not remain in the house forever; 8the son remains forever.
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet 9you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.
38 10I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard 11from your father. ā€

You Are of Your Father the Devil

39 They answered him, 12ā€œAbraham is our father. ā€ Jesus said to them, 13ā€œIf you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works Abraham did,
40 but now 14you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth 15that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.
