John 1:14-24

Listen to John 1:14-24

14 And ¹the Word ²became flesh and ³dwelt among us, ⁴and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of ⁵grace and ⁶truth.

15 ( ⁷John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ⁸‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me. ’”)

16 For from ⁹his fullness we have all received, ¹⁰grace upon grace. ^[a]

17 For ¹¹the law was given through Moses; ¹²grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

18 ¹³No one has ever seen God; ¹⁴the only God, ^[b] who is at the Father’s side, ^[c] ¹⁵he has made him known.

19 And this is the ¹⁶testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, ¹⁷“Who are you? ”

20 ¹⁸He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ. ”

21 And they asked him, “What then? ¹⁹Are you Elijah? ” He said, “I am not. ” “Are you ²⁰the Prophet? ” And he answered, “No. ”

22 So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself? ”

23 He said, “I am ²¹the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight^[d] the way of the Lord, ’ as the prophet Isaiah said. ”

24 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. )
