Your silver has become dross,1 your choice wine is diluted with water.
Your rulers are rebels,2 companions of thieves;3 they all love bribes4 and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow's case does not come before them.524
Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One6 of Israel, declares: "Ah, I will get relief from my foes and avenge7 myself on my enemies.825
I will turn my hand against you;9 I will thoroughly purge10 away your dross11 and remove all your impurities.1226
I will restore your judges as in days of old,13 your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called14 the City of Righteousness,15 the Faithful City.16"
Zion will be redeemed with justice, her penitent17 ones with righteousness.1828
But rebels and sinners19 will both be broken, and those who forsake20 the LORD will perish.2129
"You will be ashamed22 because of the sacred oaks23 in which you have delighted; you will be disgraced because of the gardens24 that you have chosen.
You will be like an oak with fading leaves,25 like a garden without water.
The mighty man will become tinder and his work a spark; both will burn together, with no one to quench the fire.26"
