This is what God the LORD says-- he who created the heavens1 and stretched them out, who spread out the earth2 and all that comes out of it,3 who gives breath4 to its people, and life to those who walk on it:
"I, the LORD, have called5 you in righteousness;6 I will take hold of your hand.7 I will keep8 you and will make you to be a covenant9 for the people and a light10 for the Gentiles,117
to open eyes that are blind,12 to free13 captives from prison14 and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.158
"I am the LORD;16 that is my name!17 I will not give my glory to another18 or my praise to idols.199
See, the former things20 have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce21 them to you."
Sing22 to the LORD a new song,23 his praise24 from the ends of the earth,25 you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it,26 you islands,27 and all who live in them.
Let the desert28 and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements where Kedar29 lives rejoice. Let the people of Sela30 sing for joy; let them shout from the mountaintops.3112
Let them give glory32 to the LORD and proclaim his praise33 in the islands.3413
The LORD will march out like a mighty35 man, like a warrior36 he will stir up his zeal;37 with a shout38 he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.3914
"For a long time I have kept silent,40 I have been quiet and held myself back.41 But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant.4215
I will lay waste43 the mountains44 and hills and dry up all their vegetation; I will turn rivers into islands and dry up45 the pools.
