1When the morning was come , all the chief priestsandelders of the peopletookcounselagainstJesustoputhim to death :
2And when they had boundhim, they led him away , anddeliveredhim to PontiusPilate the governor.3ThenJudas,which had betrayedhim, when he sawthat he was condemned , repented himself , and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priestsandelders,4Saying , I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocentblood.And they said , What is that tous?seethou to that.
5And he cast down the pieces of silverin the temple, and departed , andwent and hanged himself .
6And the chief prieststook the silver pieces, and said , It isnotlawful for to puttheminto the treasury,because it is the price of blood.7And they tookcounsel, and boughtwiththem the potter'sfield,toburystrangersin.8Whereforethatfield was called , The field of blood,unto this day.9Then was fulfilled that which was spokenbyJeremy the prophet,saying , And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued , whoma they of the children of Israel did value ;
10Andgavethemfor the potter'sfield,as the Lordappointedme.11AndJesusstoodbefore the governor:and the governoraskedhim,saying , Artthou the King of the Jews?AndJesussaid unto him,Thousayest .12Andwhenhe was accusedof the chief priestsandelders, he answerednothing.13ThensaidPilate unto him, Hearest thounot how many things they witness againstthee?14And he answeredhimtoneveraword;insomuch that the governormarvelledgreatly.15Nowat that feast the governor was wont to release unto the peopleaprisoner,whom they would .
16And they hadthen a notableprisoner,calledBarabbas.17Therefore when they were gathered together , Pilatesaid unto them,Whom will ye that I release unto you?Barabbas,orJesuswhich is calledChrist?18For he knewthatforenvy they had deliveredhim.19Whenhe was set downon the judgment seat,hiswifesentuntohim,saying , Have thounothing to do with that just man:for I have suffered many things this dayin a dreambecause of him.20But the chief priestsandelderspersuaded the multitudethat they should askBarabbas,anddestroyJesus.21
The governoransweredandsaid unto them,Whetherof the twain will ye that I release unto you ? They said , Barabbas.22Pilatesaith unto them,What shall I dothen with Jesuswhich is calledChrist? They allsay unto him, Let him be crucified .
23And the governorsaid , Why,whatevil hath he done ? But they cried out the more,saying , Let him be crucified .
24WhenPilatesawthat he could prevailnothing,but that rather a tumult was made , he tookwater, and washed his handsbefore the multitude,saying , I aminnocentof the blood of this just person:seeye to it.
25Thenansweredall the people, and said , Hisblood be onus,andonourchildren.26Then released heBarabbas unto them:and when he had scourgedJesus, he delivered him to be crucified .
27Then the soldiers of the governortookJesusinto the common hall,b and gathereduntohim the wholeband of soldiers.
28And they strippedhim, and put onhim a scarletrobe.29And when they had platted a crownofthorns, they put it uponhishead,and a reedinhis right hand:and they bowed the kneebeforehim, and mockedhim,saying , Hail , King of the Jews!30And they spituponhim, and took the reed,andsmotehimon the head.31Andafter that they had mockedhim, they took the robeoff from him,andput his ownraimentonhim,andledhimawaytocrucify him.
32And as they came out , they found a man of Cyrene,Simon by name:him they compelledtobearhiscross.33And when they were comeunto a placecalledGolgotha,thatis to say , a place of a skull,34
They gavehimvinegar to drinkmingledwithgall:and when he had tasted thereof, he wouldnotdrink .
35And they crucifiedhim, and partedhisgarments,castinglots:that it might be fulfilledwhich was spokenby the prophet, They partedmygarments among them,anduponmyvesture did they castlots.36And sitting down they watchedhimthere;37And set upoverhisheadhisaccusationwritten , THISISJESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.38Then were there twothievescrucifiedwithhim,oneon the right hand,andanotheron the left.39And they that passed byreviledhim,waggingtheirheads,40Andsaying , Thou that destroyest the temple,andbuildest it inthreedays,savethyself.If thou be the Son of God, come downfrom the cross.41Likewisealso the chief priestsmocking him, with the scribesandelders,said ,
42
He savedothers;himself he cannotsave . If he be the King of Israel, let himnow come downfrom the cross,and we will believehim.43
He trustedinGod; let him deliverhimnow,if he will havehim:for he said , I am the Son of God.44Thethievesalso,which were crucified with him,cast the same in histeeth .
45Nowfrom the sixthhour there wasdarknessoverall the landunto the ninthhour.46Andabout the ninthhourJesuscried with a loudvoice,saying , Eli,Eli,lamasabachthani?that is to say, MyGod,myGod,why hast thou forsakenme?47Some of them that stoodthere, when they heard that, said , This man calleth forElias.48Andstraightwayoneofthemran , andtook a spunge,andfilled it with vinegar,and put it on a reed, and gavehim to drink .
49Therestsaid , Let be , let us seewhetherElias will come to savehim.50Jesus, when he had criedagain with a loudvoice, yielded up the ghost.51And,behold , the veil of the temple was rentintwainfrom the topto the bottom;and the earth did quake , and the rocksrent ;
52And the graves were opened ; andmanybodies of the saintswhichsleptarose ,
53Andcame out of the gravesafterhisresurrection, and wentinto the holycity,andappeared unto many.54Now when the centurion,and they that were withhim,watchingJesus,saw the earthquake,and those things that were done , they fearedgreatly,saying , Trulythiswas the Son of God.55Andmanywomenweretherebeholding afar off , whichfollowedJesusfromGalilee,ministering unto him:56AmongwhichwasMaryMagdalene,andMary the mother of JamesandJoses,and the mother of Zebedee'schildren.57When the even was come , there came a richmanofArimathaea,namedJoseph,whoalsohimselfwasJesus'disciple :
58Hewent to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.ThenPilatecommanded the body to be delivered .
59And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrappedit in a clean linen cloth,60Andlaiditin his ownnewtomb,which he had hewn outin the rock:and he rolled a greatstone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed .
61AndtherewasMaryMagdalene,and the otherMary,sitting over against the sepulchre.62Now the next day,thatfollowed the day of the preparation, the chief priestsandPharisees came togetheruntoPilate,63Saying , Sir, we rememberthatthatdeceiversaid , while he was yetalive , Afterthreedays I will rise again .
64Commandtherefore that the sepulchre be made sureuntil the thirdday,lesthisdisciplescome by night, and stealhimaway , andsay unto the people, He is risenfrom the dead:so the lasterror shall be worse than the first.65Pilatesaid unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way , make it as sureas ye can .
66So they went , and made the sepulchresure , sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
