1 1Whoever believes that Jesus is the aChrist is b2born of God, and whoever loves the cFather 3loves the child dborn of Him. 2 4By this we know that 5we love the children of God, when we love God and eobserve His commandments. 3 For 6this is the love of God, that we 7keep His commandments ; and 8His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is f9born of God 10overcomes the world ; and this is the victory that has overcome the world -our faith. 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who 11believes that Jesus is the Son of God ? 6 This is the One who came 12by water and blood, Jesus Christ ; not gwith the water only, but hwith the water and iwith the blood. It is 13the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are 14three that testify : 8 jthe Spirit and the water and the blood ; and the three are kin agreement. 9 15If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater ; for the testimony of God is this, that 16He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God 17has the testimony in himself ; the one who does not believe God has 18made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us 19eternal life, and 20this life is in His Son. 12 21He who has the Son has the life ; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.This Is Written That You May Know
13 22These things I have written to you who 23believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have 24eternal life. 14 This is 25the confidence which we have lbefore Him, that, 26if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, 27we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. 16 If anyone sees his brother mcommitting a sin not leading to death, 28he shall ask and nGod will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. 29There is a sin leading to death ; 30I do not say that he should make request for this. 17 31All unrighteousness is sin, and 32there is a sin not leading to death. 18 33We know that 34no one who is oborn of God sins ; but He who was pborn of God 35keeps him, and 36the evil one does not 37touch him. 19 38We know that 39we are of God, and that 40the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And 41we know that 42the Son of God has come, and has 43given us understanding so that we may know 44Him who is true ; and we 45are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. 46This is the true God and 47eternal life. 21 48Little children, guard yourselves from 49idols.New American Standard Bible Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation, La Habra, California.
