1 John 2:1-2

We’re entering the courtroom, as we turn together to First John chapter two!  The accuser is satan, and our advocate is Jesus!  As we stand before the judge guilty as could be, Jesus is willing to take the punishment we rightly deserve, and save us from an eternity apart from God.  Such amazing grace will leave us saying today, “Hallelujah What a Savior!”  

We were separated from God because of our sin; Jesus was the sacrifice that fully restored God's relationship with man. He does not know us after our sin. Our reputation before Him is stainless.

As a believer, what do you think will happen if you sin? Do you fear you’ll lose your salvation or be punished by God? In the first couple of verses of the second chapter, John expounds on his earlier statements assuring believers that if we do sin, we have an Advocate with the Father: Jesus Himself. He then goes on to say that He is the “propitiation” for our sins. And that is good news!

Pastor Jeff Johnson will be resuming a study through First John.  We’ll begin chapter two today which speaks about experiencing the light of God and how to deal with sin.  We hope and pray that by the end of our time together you’ll say along with us, “Hallelujah What a Savior!”   

Jesus Christ will not find a redeemable quality in us that he can argue on our behalf before the Father. There is nothing in us worth redeeming. God simply loves us so He took on the entire task of redeeming us.
