Man of Lawlessness

1 Now we request you, ¹brethren, with regard to the ^a²coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our ³gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your ^bcomposure or be disturbed either by a ⁴spirit or a ^c⁵message or a ⁶letter as if from us, to the effect that ⁷the day of the Lord ⁸has come. 3 ⁹Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the ^d¹⁰apostasy comes first, and the ¹¹man of lawlessness is revealed, the ¹²son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above ^e¹³every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, ¹⁴displaying himself as being God. 5 Do you not remember that ¹⁵while I was still with you, I was telling you these things ? 6 And you know ¹⁶what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For ¹⁷the mystery of lawlessness is already at work ; only ¹⁸he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then that lawless one ¹⁹will be revealed whom the Lord will slay ²⁰with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the ²¹appearance of His ^fcoming ; 9 that is, the one whose ^gcoming is in accord with the activity of ²²Satan, with all power and ^h²³signs and false wonders, 10 and with ⁱall the deception of wickedness for ²⁴those who perish, because they did not receive the love of ²⁵the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason ²⁶God ^jwill send upon them ^ka ²⁷deluding influence so that they will believe ^lwhat is false, 12 in order that they all may be ^mjudged who ²⁸did not believe the truth, but ⁿ²⁹took pleasure in wickedness. 13 ³⁰But we should always give thanks to God for you, ³¹brethren beloved by the Lord, because ³²God has chosen you ^ofrom the beginning ³³for salvation ^p³⁴through sanctification ^qby the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 It was for this He ³⁵called you through ³⁶our gospel, ^rthat you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brethren, ³⁷stand firm and ³⁸hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether ³⁹by word of mouth or ⁴⁰by letter ^sfrom us. 16 ⁴¹Now may our Lord Jesus Christ ⁴²Himself and God our Father, who has ⁴³loved us and given us eternal comfort and ⁴⁴good hope by grace, 17 ⁴⁵comfort and ⁴⁶strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
