John 1:14-24

The Word Made Flesh

14 And ¹the Word ²became flesh, and ^[a]3dwelt among us, and ⁴we saw His glory, glory as of ^[b]the only begotten from the Father, full of ⁵grace and ⁶truth.

15 John ⁷testified about Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, '⁸He who comes after me ^[c]has a higher rank than I, ⁹for He existed before me.' "

16 For of His ¹⁰fullness ^[d]we have all received, and ^[e]grace upon grace.

17 For ¹¹the Law was given through Moses; ¹²grace and ¹³truth ^[f]were realized through Jesus Christ.

18 ¹⁴No one has seen God at any time; ¹⁵the only begotten God who is ¹⁶in the bosom of the Father, ¹⁷He has explained Him.

The Testimony of John

19 This is ¹⁸the testimony of John, when ¹⁹the Jews sent to him priests and Levites ²⁰from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"

20 And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, "²¹I am not ^[g]the Christ."

21 They asked him, "What then? Are you ²²Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you ²³the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."

22 Then they said to him, "Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"

23 He said, "I am ²⁴A VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THE LORD,' as Isaiah the prophet said."

24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.
