6 There [a]came a mansent from God, whosename was 1John.

[b]He came[c]2as a witness, to testifyabout the Light, 3so that all might believethrough him.

[d]4He was not the Light, but he came to testifyabout the Light.

There was 5the trueLight[e]which, coming into the world, enlightenseveryman.

He was in the world, and 6the world was madethrough Him, and the world did not know Him.

He came to His [f]own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become7children of God, even 8to those who believe in His name,

9who were [g]born, not of [h]bloodnor of the will of the fleshnor of the will of man, but of God.
The Word Made Flesh
14 And 10the Word11becameflesh, and [i]12dweltamong us, and 13we saw His glory, glory as of [j]the onlybegotten from the Father, full of 14grace and 15truth.

John16testifiedabout Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, '17He who comesafter me [k]has a higherrank than I, 18for He existedbefore me.' "

For of His 19fullness[l]we have allreceived, and [m]grace upon grace.
