John 1:6-16

The Witness John

6 There ^[a]came a man sent from God, whose name was ¹John.

7 ^[b]He came ^[c]2as a witness, to testify about the Light, ³so that all might believe through him.

8 ^[d]4He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.

9 There was ⁵the true Light ^[e]which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

10 He was in the world, and ⁶the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

11 He came to His ^[f]own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become ⁷children of God, even ⁸to those who believe in His name,

13 ⁹who were ^[g]born, not of ^[h]blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Word Made Flesh

14 And ¹⁰the Word ¹¹became flesh, and ^[i]12dwelt among us, and ¹³we saw His glory, glory as of ^[j]the only begotten from the Father, full of ¹⁴grace and ¹⁵truth.

15 John ¹⁶testified about Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, '¹⁷He who comes after me ^[k]has a higher rank than I, ¹⁸for He existed before me.' "

16 For of His ¹⁹fullness ^[l]we have all received, and ^[m]grace upon grace.
