Matthew 14:22-33

Listen to Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus Walks on the Water

22 1Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away.
23 After He had sent the crowds away, 2He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.
24 But the boat was already a long distance from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was 3contrary.
25 And in 4the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea.
26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is 5a ghost!" And they cried out in fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "6Take courage, it is I; 7do not be afraid."
28 Peter said to Him, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water."
29 And He said, "Come!" And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
31 Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, "8You of little faith, why * did you doubt?"
32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped.
33 And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, "You are certainly 9God's Son!"

In Matthew Chapter 14 we read about Jesus sending the disciples ahead of Him in a boat following the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. Following that miraculous experience, the disciples found themselves in a fierce storm and fearing for their lives, but Jesus showed up at the perfect time and not only calmed the sea but provided peace to all who were on the boat. Let’s learn more about this story and the real-life meaning there is for us from today’s message, Calm at the Center.

Let’s face it, many of us are consumed by fear today!  We look at all that’s going on in our world, and it’s very easy for us to resort to that sort of thing.  But in case you haven’t noticed when we capitulate to fear it destroys faith.  That’s why we need to choose faith over fear!  And God will give us the faith we need to overcome that fear. Today on Light on the Hill we’ll learn how to embrace faith over fear as we join pastor James Kaddis in Matthew chapter fourteen.
