1 Caída de Babilonia<br />Después de todo esto vi que otro ángel bajaba del cielo con gran autoridad, y la tierra se iluminó con su resplandor.

2 Dio un fuerte grito:<br />«¡Ha caído Babilonia, cayó esa gran ciudad!<br />Se ha convertido en una casa para los demonios.<br />Es una guarida para todo espíritu inmundo<br />,<br />un nido para todo buitre repugnante<br />y una cueva para todo animal<br /> sucio y espantoso.

3 Pues todas las naciones han caído<br />debido al vino de su apasionada inmoralidad.<br />Los reyes del mundo<br />cometieron adulterio con ella.<br />Debido a su deseo por lujos excesivos,<br />los comerciantes del mundo se han enriquecido».

4 Después oí otra voz que clamaba desde el cielo:<br />«Pueblo mío, salgan de ella.<br />No participen en sus pecados<br />o serán castigados junto con ella.

5 Pues sus pecados se han amontonado hasta el cielo,<br />y Dios se acuerda de sus maldades.

6 Háganle a ella lo que ella les ha hecho a otros.<br />Denle doble castigo por<br /> todas sus maldades.<br />Ella preparó una copa de terror para otros,<br />así que preparen el doble<br /> para ella.

7 Ella se glorificó a sí misma y vivió rodeada de lujos,<br />ahora denle la misma proporción de tormento y tristeza.<br />Ella se jactó en su corazón, diciendo:<br />“Soy reina en mi trono.<br />No soy ninguna viuda indefensa<br />ni tengo motivos para lamentarme”.

8 Por lo tanto, estas plagas le llegarán en un solo día:<br />la muerte, el lamento y el hambre.<br />Ella será totalmente consumida por el fuego,<br />porque el Señor Dios, quien la juzga, es poderoso».

9 Y los reyes del mundo que cometieron adulterio con ella y disfrutaron de todos sus lujos, se lamentarán por ella cuando vean el humo que sube de sus restos carbonizados.

10 Aterrorizados por su gran tormento, los reyes del mundo se mantendrán a distancia y clamarán:<br />«¡Qué terrible, qué terrible para ti,<br />oh Babilonia, tú, gran ciudad!<br />En un solo instante<br />el juicio de Dios cayó sobre ti».

11 Los comerciantes del mundo llorarán y se lamentarán por ella, porque ya no queda nadie que les compre sus mercaderías.

12 Ella compró grandes cantidades de oro, plata, joyas y perlas; lino de la más alta calidad, púrpura, seda y tela de color escarlata; objetos hechos con la fragante madera de alerce, artículos de marfil y objetos hechos con madera costosa; y bronce, hierro y mármol.

13 También compró canela, especias, especias aromáticas, mirra, incienso, vino, aceite de oliva, harina refinada, trigo, ganado, ovejas, caballos, carruajes y cuerpos, es decir, esclavos humanos.

14 «De las delicias que tanto amabas<br />ya no queda nada —claman los comerciantes—.<br />Todos tus lujos y el esplendor<br />se han ido para siempre<br />y ya nunca volverán a ser tuyos».

15 Los comerciantes que se enriquecieron vendiéndole esas cosas, se mantendrán a distancia, aterrados por el gran tormento de ella. Llorarán y clamarán:

16 «¡Qué terrible, qué terrible para esa gran ciudad!<br />¡Ella se vestía de púrpura de la más alta calidad y lino escarlata,<br />adornada con oro, piedras preciosas y perlas!

17 ¡En un solo instante,<br />toda la riqueza de la ciudad se esfumó!».<br />Y todos los capitanes de los barcos mercantes y los pasajeros, los marineros y las tripulaciones se mantendrán a distancia.

18 Todos clamarán cuando vean subir el humo y dirán: «¿Dónde habrá una ciudad de tanta grandeza como esta?».

19 Y llorarán y echarán tierra sobre su cabeza para mostrar su dolor y clamarán:<br />«¡Qué terrible, qué terrible para esa gran ciudad!<br />Los dueños de barcos se hicieron ricos<br />transportando por los mares la gran riqueza de ella.<br />En un solo instante, se esfumó todo».

20 ¡Oh cielo, alégrate del destino de ella,<br />y también ustedes pueblo de Dios, apóstoles y profetas!<br />Pues al fin Dios la ha juzgado<br />por amor a ustedes.

21 Luego un ángel poderoso levantó una roca inmensa del tamaño de una gran piedra de molino, la lanzó al mar y gritó:<br />«Así es como la gran ciudad de Babilonia<br />será derribada con violencia<br />y nunca más se encontrará.

22 Nunca más se oirá en ti el sonido de las<br />arpas, los cantantes, las flautas y las trompetas.<br />No se encontrarán en ti<br />ni artesanos ni comercio,<br />ni se volverá a oír<br />el sonido del molino.

23 Nunca más brillará en ti<br />la luz de una lámpara<br />ni se oirán las felices voces<br />de los novios y las novias.<br />Pues tus comerciantes eran los grandes del mundo,<br />y tú engañaste a las naciones con tus hechicerías.

24 La sangre de los profetas y del pueblo santo de Dios corrió en tus calles,<br />junto con la sangre de gente masacrada por todo el mundo».

1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor.

2 With a mighty voice he shouted: “ ‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’She has become a dwelling for demons and a haunt for every impure spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal.

3 For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”

4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “ ‘Come out of her, my people,’so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues;

5 for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.

6 Give back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Pour her a double portion from her own cup.

7 Give her as much torment and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. In her heart she boasts, ‘I sit enthroned as queen. I am not a widow;I will never mourn.’

8 Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning and famine. She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.

9 “When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her.

10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: “ ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come!’

11 “The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore—

12 cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;

13 cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and human beings sold as slaves.

14 “They will say, ‘The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your luxury and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.’

15 The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment. They will weep and mourn

16 and cry out: “ ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls!

17 In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’ “Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off.

18 When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city?’

19 They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: “ ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’

20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens! Rejoice, you people of God! Rejoice, apostles and prophets! For God has judged her with the judgment she imposed on you.”

21 Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.

22 The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No worker of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone will never be heard in you again.

23 The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world’s important people. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray.

24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people, of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”
