1 El descanso prometido para el pueblo de Dios<br />Todavía sigue vigente la promesa que hizo Dios de entrar en su descanso; por lo tanto, debemos temblar de miedo ante la idea de que alguno de ustedes no llegue a alcanzarlo.

2 Pues esta buena noticia —del descanso que Dios ha preparado— se nos ha anunciado tanto a ellos como a nosotros, pero a ellos no les sirvió de nada porque no tuvieron la fe de los que escucharon a Dios.

3 Pues solo los que creemos podemos entrar en su descanso. En cuanto a los demás, Dios dijo:<br />«En mi enojo juré:<br />“Ellos nunca entrarán en mi lugar de descanso”»<br />,<br />si bien ese descanso está preparado desde que él hizo el mundo.

4 Sabemos que está preparado debido al pasaje en las Escrituras que menciona el séptimo día: «En el séptimo día Dios descansó de todo su trabajo»<br />.

5 Pero en el otro pasaje Dios dijo: «Nunca entrarán en mi lugar de descanso»<br />.

6 Así que el descanso de Dios está disponible para que la gente entre, pero los primeros en oír esta buena noticia no entraron, porque desobedecieron a Dios.

7 Entonces Dios fijó otro tiempo para entrar en su descanso, y ese tiempo es hoy. Lo anunció mucho más tarde por medio de David en las palabras que ya se han citado:<br />«Cuando oigan hoy su voz<br />no endurezcan el corazón»<br />.

8 Ahora bien, si Josué hubiera logrado darles ese descanso, Dios no habría hablado de otro día de descanso aún por venir.

9 Así que todavía hay un descanso especial<br /> en espera para el pueblo de Dios.

10 Pues todos los que han entrado en el descanso de Dios han descansado de su trabajo, tal como Dios descansó del suyo después de crear el mundo.

11 Entonces, hagamos todo lo posible por entrar en ese descanso, pero si desobedecemos a Dios, como lo hizo el pueblo de Israel, caeremos.

12 Pues la palabra de Dios es viva y poderosa. Es más cortante que cualquier espada de dos filos; penetra entre el alma y el espíritu, entre la articulación y la médula del hueso. Deja al descubierto nuestros pensamientos y deseos más íntimos.

13 No hay nada en toda la creación que esté oculto a Dios. Todo está desnudo y expuesto ante sus ojos; y es a él a quien rendimos cuentas.

14 Cristo es nuestro Sumo Sacerdote<br />Por lo tanto, ya que tenemos un gran Sumo Sacerdote que entró en el cielo, Jesús el Hijo de Dios, aferrémonos a lo que creemos.

15 Nuestro Sumo Sacerdote comprende nuestras debilidades, porque enfrentó todas y cada una de las pruebas que enfrentamos nosotros, sin embargo, él nunca pecó.

1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.

2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.

3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world.

4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”

5 And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”

6 Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience,

7 God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.

9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;

10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.

11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
