Psalm 72

CEB 1 God, give your judgments to the king. Give your righteousness to the king's son. NRS 1 Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to a king's son. CEB 2 Let him judge your people with righteousness and your poor ones with justice. NRS 2 May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice. CEB 3 Let the mountains bring peace to the people; let the hills bring righteousness. NRS 3 May the mountains yield prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness. CEB 4 Let the king bring justice to people who are poor; let him save the children of those who are needy, but let him crush oppressors! NRS 4 May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor. CEB 5 Let the king live as long as the sun, as long as the moon, generation to generation. NRS 5 May he live while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations. CEB 6 Let him fall like rain upon fresh-cut grass, like showers that water the earth. NRS 6 May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth. CEB 7 Let the righteous flourish throughout their lives, and let peace prosper until the moon is no more. NRS 7 In his days may righteousness flourish and peace abound, until the moon is no more. CEB 8 Let the king rule from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth. NRS 8 May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. CEB 9 Let the desert dwellers bow low before him; let his enemies lick the dust. NRS 9 May his foes bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust. CEB 10 Let the kings of Tarshish and the islands bring tribute; let the kings of Sheba and Seba present gifts. NRS 10 May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles render him tribute, may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts. CEB 11 Let all the kings bow down before him; let all the nations serve him. NRS 11 May all kings fall down before him, all nations give him service. CEB 12 Let it be so, because he delivers the needy who cry out, the poor, and those who have no helper. NRS 12 For he delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper. CEB 13 He has compassion on the weak and the needy; he saves the lives of those who are in need. NRS 13 He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy. CEB 14 He redeems their lives from oppression and violence; their blood is precious in his eyes. NRS 14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life; and precious is their blood in his sight. CEB 15 Let the king live long! Let Sheba's gold be given to him! Let him be prayed for always! Let him be blessed all day long! NRS 15 Long may he live! May gold of Sheba be given to him. May prayer be made for him continually, and blessings invoked for him all day long. CEB 16 Let there be abundant grain in the land. Let it wave on the mountaintops. Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon. Let it thrive like grass on the land. NRS 16 May there be abundance of grain in the land; may it wave on the tops of the mountains; may its fruit be like Lebanon; and may people blossom in the cities like the grass of the field. CEB 17 Let the king's name last forever. Let his name endure as long as the sun. Let all the nations be blessed through him and call him happy. NRS 17 May his name endure forever, his fame continue as long as the sun. May all nations be blessed in him; may they pronounce him happy. CEB 18 Bless the LORD God, the God of Israel— the only one who does wondrous things! NRS 18 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. CEB 19 Bless God's glorious name forever; let his glory fill all the earth! Amen and Amen! NRS 19 Blessed be his glorious name forever; may his glory fill the whole earth. Amen and Amen.
