Psalm 33

MSG 1 Good people, cheer God! Right-living people sound best when praising. NIV 1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. MSG 2 Use guitars to reinforce your Hallelujahs! Play his praise on a grand piano! NIV 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. MSG 3 Invent your own new song to him; give him a trumpet fanfare. NIV 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. MSG 4 For God's Word is solid to the core; everything he makes is sound inside and out. NIV 4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. MSG 5 He loves it when everything fits, when his world is in plumb-line true. Earth is drenched in God's affectionate satisfaction. NIV 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. MSG 6 The skies were made by God's command; he breathed the word and the stars popped out. NIV 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. MSG 7 He scooped Sea into his jug, put Ocean in his keg. NIV 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. MSG 8 Earth-creatures, bow before God; world-dwellers - down on your knees! NIV 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. MSG 9 Here's why: he spoke and there it was, in place the moment he said so. NIV 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. MSG 10 God takes the wind out of Babel pretense, he shoots down the world's power-schemes. NIV 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. MSG 11 God's plan for the world stands up, all his designs are made to last. NIV 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. MSG 12 Blessed is the country with God for God; blessed are the people he's put in his will. NIV 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. MSG 13 From high in the skies God looks around, he sees all Adam's brood. NIV 13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; MSG 14 From where he sits he overlooks all us earth-dwellers. NIV 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- MSG 15 He has shaped each person in turn; now he watches everything we do. NIV 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. MSG 16 No king succeeds with a big army alone, no warrior wins by brute strength. NIV 16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. MSG 17 Horsepower is not the answer; no one gets by on muscle alone. NIV 17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. MSG 18 Watch this: God's eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love. NIV 18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, MSG 19 He's ready to come to their rescue in bad times; in lean times he keeps body and soul together. NIV 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. MSG 20 We're depending on God; he's everything we need. NIV 20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. MSG 21 What's more, our hearts brim with joy since we've taken for our own his holy name. NIV 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. MSG 22 Love us, God, with all you've got - that's what we're depending on. NIV 22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
