Psalm 33

NLT 1 Let the godly sing with joy to the LORD, for it is fitting to praise him. NIV 1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. NLT 2 Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. NIV 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. NLT 3 Sing new songs of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp and sing with joy. NIV 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. NLT 4 For the word of the LORD holds true, and everything he does is worthy of our trust. NIV 4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. NLT 5 He loves whatever is just and good, and his unfailing love fills the earth. NIV 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. NLT 6 The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. NIV 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. NLT 7 He gave the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. NIV 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. NLT 8 Let everyone in the world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of him. NIV 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. NLT 9 For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. NIV 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. NLT 10 The LORD shatters the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. NIV 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. NLT 11 But the LORD's plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. NIV 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. NLT 12 What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD, whose people he has chosen for his own. NIV 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. NLT 13 The LORD looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. NIV 13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; NLT 14 From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. NIV 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- NLT 15 He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. NIV 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. NLT 16 The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. NIV 16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. NLT 17 Don't count on your warhorse to give you victory -- for all its strength, it cannot save you. NIV 17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. NLT 18 But the LORD watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. NIV 18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, NLT 19 He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine.
