Gomer: An Unfaithful Woman with a Powerful Message

Adultery is a sin God included in the Ten Commandments as something we should not do. Since this is the case, why would He want a man who lived for the Lord to marry a woman who commits this forbidden act? There are three answers to this question of why God would want this marriage to happen.

What Is the Feast of Trumpets?

This feast was a call to stop work and remember the Lord. The people were to hold the feast on the first day of the seventh month and you were to present a fire offering to the Lord. Throughout the day, the Israelites could hear the sound of a trumpet, or shofar, hence the name Feast of Trumpets. This feast is also a beautiful picture of the second coming of Christ, and Jews around the world continue to celebrate the Feast of Trumpets today.

What Is Legalism and Why Is it Dangerous to Your Faith?

Legalism has been in our churches and lives since Satan convinced Eve there was something other than God’s way. It is a word that no one wants to use. To be labeled a legalist usually comes with a negative stigma. Legalism can tear people and churches apart. The shocking part is that most people don’t know what legalism is and how it affects our Christian walk on an almost hourly basis.

My husband is a pastor in training. As his time at school is coming to an end, our family has been prayerfully looking at churches to minister to. Through our research we have found the statement “King James Version only” pop up frequently. Now we are not people who look down upon any believer who chooses to read the KJV, but we do find this concerning. How many men and women of God have looked over these churches all because of this statement?

To better understand this topic we call legalism, we need to look at what legalism is and identify the three types of legalism that are prevalent today. Then we need to address what God’s word says about this topic and how we can combat the repercussions of legalism in our churches and lives.

Can We Just Pray Away Injustice?

Let’s face it, the world we live in is full of injustice. People are becoming separated from God on an astronomical level. It is heartbreaking and sends out a call for Christians to do something. But what can we do?

Our first answer to the above question is to pray. We know that prayer is powerful. It can move mountains and bring about God’s providence in a way we have never seen before. But is that all we can do? Do we really believe that prayer can take away the injustice of our world? How do Christians balance prayer and stepping out against injustice?

These questions have been filtering through my mind for months now. In this article, we are going to look at Scripture and discern what God tells us to do.

What Christians Get Wrong about "Turn the Other Cheek"

Most of us have heard the phrase “turn the other cheek” at some point in our lives. Often, we are advised of this after a mishap with someone. Personally, I would always think about what that phrase meant and why it was so important to obey it.

There are two places in Scripture where Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek. The first occurrence is in the book of Matthew. Here we read these words. “But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” The second occurrence of this verse is found in Luke 6:29. It states, “If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.” So what do these verses mean, both for Jesus’ biblical audience, and for us today?
