The Fourth of July is a celebration of our freedom. On this holiday, my mom used to have my sisters and me play fun games and do crafts. My grandpa, who we called Pawpaw, loved all things crafts and would often participate in any one my mom set out for us. Even though Pawpaw struggled with early Alzheimer's, he still tried to be involved as much as possible, and the crafts we did were a way to connect with him.

He didn't talk much, but my grandma (Mawmaw) did, and she normally spoke on his behalf. While she was never one to do crafts or play games, she did love talking to my sisters, myself, my mom, and my dad to see what was going on in our lives. Those days were always memorable, and I will cherish them forever. Although the Fourth of July looks different for my family and me now, we still remember the traditions set down by my mom and share the memories of celebrations long ago.

Grandparents need to be involved in their grandchildren's lives. They love you and want to spend time with you. A great way to do this is to do a few crafts. Since the Fourth of July is coming up, it is the perfect time to bring out some supplies and have your grandchildren over for an afternoon of fun. On the Fourth of July, we celebrate the freedom we have as Americans. On July 4, 1776, America broke away from Britain and forged its own path. America didn’t want to be held under the leadership of kings and queens and opted for independence. Throughout America’s history, we see how freedom took a long time to achieve; however, they continued to fight for what they believed in. It took eight years for America to finally gain independence, but they never gave up. 

Their steadfastness was richly rewarded as America gained independence, and we are still reaping the benefits of those who came before us. While we do have freedom in America, we also have freedom in Christ (Galatians 5:1). All people worldwide have freedom in Christ if they have faith in Him, regardless of their home country. Jesus gives true freedom, and this freedom will never be taken away. 

As we reflect upon our freedom as a country, we need to thank God. Without freedom within our country, we wouldn’t have the right to practice our faith in the Lord. If we tried to share our faith, we would be persecuted. Moreover, our lives could be in danger if we simply attended a church service. We need to be thankful for the blessings God has bestowed upon us and give thanks to Him for true freedom this Independence Day.

The Fourth of July is quickly approaching, and it is the perfect time to pray for our country, our freedom, and our safety. While the Fourth of July is just another holiday for many people, it actually represents the freedom we have in America. By breaking away from England, we were able to have true freedom to speak, live, and believe. When we reflect on the Fourth of July this year, we need to remember to pray over this holiday and praise the Lord for giving us a wonderful country to call home.

Countless men and women have lost their lives in order to preserve our freedom. Rather than turning a deaf ear to this knowledge or pretending as though it is nothing major, we need to remember those who have fallen, as well as their families. The Fourth of July only exists because we are a free country. Not every country has this privilege and blessing, therefore, we must not forget where we have come from. Through the dedication of men and women, America remains free and as Christians, it is a safe place to practice our faith. 

In order to preserve this freedom, we need to continue to pray to the Lord and ask for His help. The Lord is faithful and He will answer our prayers in accordance with His will (Romans 8:28).
