7 Verses about Trees to Root You in Scripture

My husband and I are going apple picking this weekend. I am completely excited to be around the beautiful trees and pick their fruit. There is something about trees that intrigues me – I cannot help but think about faith and growth in the Lord.

John 15:2 says, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

The concept of sanctification is part of the Christian life. We are constantly being refined into the image of Christ. This means that as God teaches us more of who He is, our sinful ways are revealed and He cuts them off out of our lives. Then, the ways in us that are of Him, He prunes and cultivates so that we can multiply in the areas that represent Jesus.

John 1:48-49 says, “‘How do you know me?’ Nathanael asked. Jesus answered ‘I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.’ Then Nathanael declared, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.’”

This is a very mysterious passage. No one knows exactly what happened under that fig tree or what Nathanael may have been going through. However, we know that Nathanael was in total amazement that Jesus saw Him there.

When we see trees, we can think about how Jesus sees us. No matter what our day is like, the Lord’s eyes are on us and He is with us.

Acts 5:30 “The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.”

When we see a tree, we can be reminded that Jesus died on the cross. We have been fully forgiven by His death and resurrection. Just as humanity sinned and fell at a tree, Jesus came and died on a tree, giving us victory over sin and death. We can celebrate the new life that we have in Christ every time we look at the trees.

Even though it might seem mundane, anytime we look at trees, may we be in awe of the Creator. Let us rest in His presence, be empowered and live for Christ, remember that God sees us, and know that He died for us to live with Him forever. We can look as all of creation worships our Lord and join in with their praises. Psalm 66:4 says, “The whole earth will worship you and sing praise to you. They will sing praise to your name. Selah.”
