23 Y aconteció que a la vuelta del año, el ejército de los arameos subió contra él; y vinieron a Judá y a Jerusalén, destruyeron de entre la población a todos los oficiales del pueblo, y enviaron todo el botín al rey de Damasco.

2 Chronicles 24:23

And it came to pass at the end of the year
After the death of Zechariah; so soon had his prophecy its accomplishment:

that the host of Syria came up against him;
against Joash, king of Judah, under Hazael king of Syria, or however sent by him; for some think this is a different expedition from that in ( 2 Kings 12:17 ) though others take it to be the same:

and they came to Judah and Jerusalem;
not only came into the land of Judah, but as far as Jerusalem, the forces of Joash not being able to stop them:

and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people;
the idolatrous princes of Judah, ( 2 Chronicles 24:17 ) , which is very remarkable that they should be distinguished from the people in their destruction, who had been the chief cause of the wrath of God coming upon them:

and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus;
all the riches that were taken from them were sent to the king of Syria at Damascus; this looks as if Hazael was not with this army.

21 Mas ellos conspiraron contra él, y por orden del rey lo mataron a pedradas en el atrio de la casa del SEÑOR.

22 No se acordó el rey Joás de la bondad que Joiada, padre de Zacarías, le había mostrado, sino que asesinó a su hijo. Y éste al morir dijo: Que lo vea el SEÑOR y tome venganza.

23 Y aconteció que a la vuelta del año, el ejército de los arameos subió contra él; y vinieron a Judá y a Jerusalén, destruyeron de entre la población a todos los oficiales del pueblo, y enviaron todo el botín al rey de Damasco.

24 Ciertamente, el ejército de los arameos vino con pocos hombres; sin embargo, el SEÑOR entregó a un ejército muy grande en sus manos, porque habían abandonado al SEÑOR, Dios de sus padres. Así ejecutaron juicio contra Joás.

25 Y cuando ellos se alejaron de él (dejándolo muy herido), sus mismos siervos conspiraron contra él a causa de la sangre del hijo del sacerdote Joiada, y lo mataron en su cama. Y murió, y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, pero no lo sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes.
