Deuteronomio 10

1 En aquel tiempo el SEÑOR me dijo: "Lábrate dos tablas de piedra como las anteriores, y sube a mí al monte, y hazte un arca de madera.

2 "Y yo escribiré sobre las tablas las palabras que estaban sobre las primeras tablas que quebraste, y las pondrás en el arca."

3 Hice, pues, un arca de madera de acacia y labré dos tablas de piedra como las anteriores, y subí al monte con las dos tablas en mi mano.

4 Y El escribió sobre las tablas, conforme a la escritura anterior, los diez mandamientos que el SEÑOR os había hablado en el monte de en medio del fuego el día de la asamblea; y el SEÑOR me las dio.

5 Entonces me volví y descendí del monte, y puse las tablas en el arca que yo había hecho; y allí están tal como el SEÑOR me ordenó.

6 (Después los hijos de Israel partieron de Beerot-bene-jaacán hacia Mosera. Allí murió Aarón y allí fue sepultado, y su hijo Eleazar ministró como sacerdote en su lugar.

7 De allí partieron hacia Gudgoda; y de Gudgoda hacia Jotbata, una tierra de corrientes de aguas.

8 En aquel tiempo el SEÑOR apartó la tribu de Leví para que llevara el arca del pacto del SEÑOR, y para que estuviera delante del SEÑOR, sirviéndole y bendiciendo en su nombre hasta el día de hoy.

9 Por tanto, Leví no tiene porción o herencia con sus hermanos; el SEÑOR es su herencia, así como el SEÑOR tu Dios le habló.)

10 Y me quedé en el monte cuarenta días y cuarenta noches como la primera vez, y el SEÑOR me escuchó también esta vez; y el SEÑOR no quiso destruirte.

11 Entonces me dijo el SEÑOR: "Levántate, continúa tu marcha al frente del pueblo, para que entren y tomen posesión de la tierra que yo juré a sus padres que les daría."

12 Y ahora, Israel, ¿qué requiere de ti el SEÑOR tu Dios, sino que temas al SEÑOR tu Dios, que andes en todos sus caminos, que le ames y que sirvas al SEÑOR tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma,

13 y que guardes los mandamientos del SEÑOR y sus estatutos que yo te ordeno hoy para tu bien?

14 He aquí, al SEÑOR tu Dios pertenecen los cielos y los cielos de los cielos, la tierra y todo lo que en ella hay.

15 Sin embargo, el SEÑOR se agradó de tus padres, los amó, y escogió a su descendencia después de ellos, es decir, a vosotros, de entre todos los pueblos, como se ve hoy.

16 Circuncidad, pues, vuestro corazón, y no endurezcáis más vuestra cerviz.

17 Porque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios es Dios de dioses y Señor de señores, Dios grande, poderoso y temible que no hace acepción de personas ni acepta soborno.

18 El hace justicia al huérfano y a la viuda, y muestra su amor al extranjero dándole pan y vestido.

19 Mostrad, pues, amor al extranjero, porque vosotros fuisteis extranjeros en la tierra de Egipto.

20 Temerás al SEÑOR tu Dios; le servirás, te allegarás a El y sólo en su nombre jurarás.

21 El es el objeto de tu alabanza y El es tu Dios, que ha hecho por ti estas cosas grandes y portentosas que tus ojos han visto.

22 Cuando tus padres descendieron a Egipto eran setenta personas, y ahora el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha hecho tan numeroso como las estrellas del cielo.

Chapter 10

God's mercies to Israel after their rebellion. (1-11) An exhortation to obedience. (12-22)

Verses 1-11 Moses reminded the Israelites of God's great mercy to them, notwithstanding their provocations. There were four things in and by which the Lord showed himself reconciled to Israel. God gave them his law. Thus God has intrusted us with Bibles, sabbaths, and sacraments, as tokens of his presence and favour. God led them forward toward Canaan. He appointed a standing ministry among them for holy things. And now, under the gospel, when the pouring forth of the Spirit is more plentiful and powerful, the succession is kept up by the Spirit's work on men's hearts, qualifying and making some willing for that work in every age. God accepted Moses as an advocate or intercessor for them, and therefore appointed him to be their prince and leader. Moses was a type of Christ, who ever lives, pleading for us, and has all power in heaven and in earth.

Verses 12-22 We are here taught our duty to God in our principles and our practices. We must fear the Lord our God. We must love him, and delight in communion with him. We must walk in the ways in which he has appointed us to walk. We must serve him with all our heart and soul. What we do in his service we must do cheerfully, and with good will. We must keep his commandments. There is true honour and pleasure in obedience. We must give honour to God; and to him we must cleave, as one we love and delight in, trust in, and from whom we have great expectations. We are here taught our duty to our neighbour. God's common gifts to mankind oblige us to honour all men. And those who have themselves been in distress, and have found mercy with God, should be ready to show kindness to those who are in the like distress. We are here taught our duty to ourselves. Circumcise your hearts. Cast away all corrupt affections and inclinations, which hinder you from fearing and loving God. By nature we do not love God. This is original sin, the source whence our wickedness proceeds; and the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be; so then they that are in the flesh cannot please God, Ro. 8:5-9 . Let us, without delay or reserve, come and cleave to our reconciled God in Jesus Christ, that we may love, serve, and obey him acceptably, and be daily changed into his image, from glory to glory, by the Spirit of the Lord. Consider the greatness and glory of God; and his goodness and grace; these persuade us to our duty. Blessed Spirit! Oh for thy purifying, persevering, and renewing influences, that being called out of the state of strangers, such as our fathers were, we may be found among the number of the children of God, and that our lot may be among the saints.
