Éxodo 31

1 Y el SEÑOR habló a Moisés, diciendo:

2 Mira, he llamado por nombre a Bezaleel, hijo de Uri, hijo de Hur, de la tribu de Judá.

3 Y lo he llenado del Espíritu de Dios en sabiduría, en inteligencia, en conocimiento y en toda clase de arte,

4 para elaborar diseños, para trabajar en oro, en plata y en bronce,

5 y en el labrado de piedras para engaste, y en el tallado de madera; a fin de que trabaje en toda clase de labor.

6 Mira, yo mismo he nombrado con él a Aholiab, hijo de Ahisamac, de la tribu de Dan; y en el corazón de todos los que son hábiles he puesto habilidad a fin de que hagan todo lo que te he mandado:

7 la tienda de reunión, el arca del testimonio, el propiciatorio sobre ella y todo el mobiliario del tabernáculo;

8 también la mesa y sus utensilios, el candelabro de oro puro con todos sus utensilios y el altar del incienso;

9 el altar del holocausto también con todos sus utensilios y la pila con su base;

10 asimismo las vestiduras tejidas, las vestiduras sagradas para el sacerdote Aarón y las vestiduras de sus hijos, para ministrar como sacerdotes;

11 también el aceite de la unción, y el incienso aromático para el lugar santo. Los harán conforme a todo lo que te he mandado.

12 Y habló el SEÑOR a Moisés, diciendo:

13 Habla, pues, tú a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: "De cierto guardaréis mis días de reposo, porque esto es una señal entre yo y vosotros por todas vuestras generaciones, a fin de que sepáis que yo soy el SEÑOR que os santifico.

14 "Por tanto, habéis de guardar el día de reposo porque es santo para vosotros. Todo el que lo profane morirá irremisiblemente; porque cualquiera que haga obra alguna en él, esa persona será cortada de entre su pueblo.

15 "Durante seis días se trabajará, pero el séptimo día será día de completo reposo, santo al SEÑOR. Cualquiera que haga obra alguna en el día de reposo morirá irremisiblemente.

16 "Los hijos de Israel guardarán, pues, el día de reposo, celebrándolo por todas sus generaciones como pacto perpetuo."

17 Es una señal entre yo y los hijos de Israel para siempre; pues en seis días el SEÑOR hizo los cielos y la tierra, y en el séptimo día cesó de trabajar y reposó.

18 Y cuando terminó de hablar con Moisés sobre el monte Sinaí, le dio las dos tablas del testimonio, tablas de piedra, escritas por el dedo de Dios.

Éxodo 31 Commentary

Chapter 31

Bezaleel and Aholiab are appointed and qualified for the work of the tabernacle. (1-11) The observance of the sabbath. (12-17) Moses receives the tables of the law. (18)

Verses 1-11 The Israelites, who had been masons and bricklayers in Egypt, were not qualified for curious workmanship; but the Spirit who gave the apostles utterance in divers tongues, miraculously gave Bezaleel and Aholiab the skill that was wanting. The honour which comes from God, is always attended with a work to be done; to be employed for God is high honour. Those whom God calls to any service, he will find or make fit for it. The Lord gives different gifts to different persons; let each mind his proper work, diligently remembering that whatever wisdom any one possesses, the Lord put it in the heart, to do his commandments.

Verses 12-17 Orders were now given that a tabernacle should be set up for the service of God. But they must not think that the nature of the work, and the haste that was required, would justify them in working at it on sabbath days. The Hebrew word /shabath/ signifies rest, or ceasing from labour. The thing signified by the sabbath is that rest in glory which remains for the people of God; therefore the moral obligation of the sabbath must continue, till time is swallowed up in eternity.

Verse 18 The law was written in tables of stone, to show how lasting it is: to denote likewise the hardness of our hearts; one might more easily write on stone, than write any thing good on our corrupt natural hearts. It was written with the finger of God; by his will and power. God only can write his law in the heart: he gives a heart of flesh; then, by his Spirit, which is the ( 2 Corinthians. 3:3 )

INTRODUCTION TO EXODUS 31

In this chapter an account is given of the persons whom God had chosen, and qualified for the work of building the tabernacle, and all things relating to it, and for the direction and oversight thereof, Ex 31:1-6 and an enumeration is made of the several things that were to be wrought, some in one way, some in another, Ex 31:7-11 the law of the sabbath is repeated, and the violation of it made death, Ex 31:12-17 and the chapter is concluded with observing, that at the close of the above orders, two tables of stone, with the law written upon them by the finger of God, were given to Moses, Ex 31:18.
