Deuteronomy 10:15 Meaning and Commentary

Deuteronomy 10:15

Only the Lord had a delight in thy fathers to love them
Though the heavens and the earth, and all the inhabitants of them are the Lord's by creation, yet he had a special regard unto, and a peculiar complacency in, the fathers of the Israelites, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; from whence arose some particular expressions of love to them, signified by various acts of kindness done them, and promises made unto them:

and he chose their seed after them, even you above all the people, as
[it is] this day;
to be a special people to him, to enjoy civil and religious privileges greater than any other; and particularly to have his law given to them, his tabernacle and worship set up among them, which were at this time, and which gave them the preference to all other nations; see ( Deuteronomy 4:7 Deuteronomy 4:8 ) ( Deuteronomy 7:6 Deuteronomy 7:7 Deuteronomy 7:8 ) ( Psalms 147:19 Psalms 147:20 ) ( Romans 3:1 Romans 3:2 ) ( Romans 9:4 Romans 9:5 ) .

Deuteronomy 10:15 In-Context

13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good?
14 Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it.
15 Yet the LORD has set His affection on your fathers and loved them. And He has chosen you, their descendants after them, above all the peoples, even to this day.
16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and stiffen your necks no more.
17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality and accepting no bribe.
