23 "What have we done? Alexander has moved more quickly in forming a friendship with the Jews to strengthen himself.

24 I'll also write them words of encouragement and promise them honor and gifts so that I may gain their help."

25 So he sent a message to them: King Demetrius to the nation of the Jews. Greetings!

26 We have heard and rejoice that you have kept your agreement and have continued your friendship with us, and have not sided with our enemies.

27 Now continue to keep faith with us, and we will repay you in kind according to the good you do for us.
