Isaiah 24:12

12 Ruin remains in the city, and the gate is battered to wreckage.

Isaiah 24:12 Meaning and Commentary

Isaiah 24:12

In the city is left desolation
And nothing else, palaces, houses, and temples burnt, and inhabitants destroyed; none but devils, foul spirits, and hateful and unclean birds, inhabiting it, ( Revelation 18:2 Revelation 18:8 ) : and the gate is smitten with destruction;
or "gates", the singular for the plural; none passing and repassing through them, as formerly, and themselves utterly destroyed. This, according to Kimchi, shall be in the days of the Messiah, in the times of Gog and Magog.

Isaiah 24:12 In-Context

10 The town is in chaos, broken; every house is shut, without entrance.
11 There is a cry for wine in the streets. All joy has reached its dusk; happiness is exiled from the earth.
12 Ruin remains in the city, and the gate is battered to wreckage.
13 It will be like this in the central part of the land and among the peoples, like a smashed olive tree, like remains from the grape harvest.
14 They raise their voice; they sing with joy; from the west they will shout about the LORD's majesty.
