Genesis 45:14 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 45:14

And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck and wept
On his neck first, because he was his own brother by father and mother's side; and he wept over him for joy that he had a sight of him once more: the word for "neck" is in the plural number, and being used, may signify that he fell first on one side of his neck, and then on the other, to show his great affection for him:

and Benjamin wept upon his neck;
their love and the tokens of it were reciprocal.

Genesis 45:14 In-Context

12 Look! Your eyes and my brother Benjamin's eyes can see that it is I [, Joseph,] who am speaking to you.
13 Tell my father all about my glory in Egypt and about all you have seen. And bring my father here quickly."
14 Then Joseph threw his arms around Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin wept on his shoulder.
15 Joseph kissed each of his brothers as he wept, and afterward his brothers talked with him.
16 When the news reached Pharaoh's house, "Joseph's brothers have come," Pharaoh and his servants were pleased.
