Numbers 33:40

40 At that time the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev in the land of Canaan,[a] heard the Israelites were coming.

Numbers 33:40 Meaning and Commentary

Ver. 40-44. And King Arad the Canaanite
Or the king of Arad the Canaanite:

which dwelt in the land of Canaan, he heard of the coming of the
children of Israel;
towards the land of Canaan, in order to possess it, and he came out and fought with them, and was vanquished; see ( Numbers 21:1-3 ) , this was when Israel was at Mount Hor; from whence they departed to Zalmonah, twenty eight miles from the mount; and from thence to Punon, which was twenty more; and so to Oboth, which was twenty four miles from Punon: and thence

to Ijeabarim, in the border of Moab,
which was sixteen miles, see ( Numbers 21:9-11 ) .

38 At the Lord's command, Aaron the priest climbed Mount Hor and died there on the first [day] of the fifth month in the fortieth year after the Israelites went out of the land of Egypt.
39 Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.
40 At that time the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard the Israelites were coming.
41 They departed from Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.
42 They departed from Zalmonah and camped at Punon.
