Behold, the Lamb of God
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, âBehold,
1the Lamb of God, who
2takes away the sin
3of the world!
30
This is he of whom I said,
4âAfter me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me. â
31
I myself did not know him, but
5for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel. â
32
And John
6bore witness:
7âI saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and
8it remained on him.
33
I myself did not know him, but
9he who sent me to baptize
10with water said to me, âHe on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain,
11this is he who baptizes
12with the Holy Spirit. â
34
And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. â
Jesus Calls the First Disciples
35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples,
36
and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, âBehold,
13the Lamb of God! â
37
The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.
38
Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them,
14âWhat are you seeking? âAnd they said to him,
15âRabbiâ (which means Teacher), âwhere are you staying? â
39
He said to them, âCome and you will see. âSo they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
40
16One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peterâs brother.
41
He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, âWe have found
17the Messiahâ (which means Christ).
42
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, âYou are Simon the son of
18John. You shall be called
19Cephasâ(which means
20Peter).
